Week 2

Today I was reading and article about the Israeli election. This has a direct affect on the war in Gaza because a new president could have a different view on things. This election could be vital to bringing peace to the Middle East, but it could also worsen these events. Israeli's feel that giving up land would further invite more attacks because it would make then look vulnerable. They more they got attacked the more land they would give up. That is why they are not so quick to give up the land and I agree with that.
I don't think they need to give any land away, but they need to lessen the restrictions on the Palestinians so it will stop all of these attacks. A new president in Israel may calm things down a little bit, but it will not settle anything. Just like Obama will not be the savior to America. While he may help us he will not be able to get America back to our golden age.

  1. an election can change everything. just look at the hype in the states with obama. Who knows how it will actually affect either nation (obama or the new Israeli president) Hopefully a new president can really straighten things out over there. For some reason I feel its more complicated than one person though

  2. it has to be more complicated than one person, because in Israel unlike here in the States, there is few different parties, and they all powerful, and if you notice the same thing happenned in 2006 upon the war on lebanon, they were elections at the time, Israeli leaders i believe using war as tool to help them success.

  3. Elections always have the potential to bring in new ideas and helpful solutions to old problems. With the problem regarding the swapping and squabbling over land between Palestine and Israeli is a problem that hopefully new elected officials from both sides can come to an agreement on. The sooner both sides start treating the land as every ones the sooner the bloodshed and violence will stop.

  4. I agree with ali 100%, during the Gaza crisis I was watching the Israeli news, and it said that Ihud Barak used the war as a strength for him in the elections...
Its also true that israel has many political parties all are almost equaly powerful, so I find it very easy to believe that they are using war as part of their advertisement campaigns.

  5. Politics are complicated no matter what the situation is. Leaders come and go but if they fail to rally their people, no matter how many cultures live in a nation, all problems will remain the same.
